A New Bookmobile Hits the Road
The Ashtabula County District Library is currently debuting its new County Bookmobile, marking a significant enhancement to its Outreach Services capabilities. The highly customized 2022 Ford 550 Diesel 18’ box truck replaces the well-worn 2007 Blue Bird bus which has for many years brought the joy of reading and life-long learning directly to residents across Ashtabula County.
Built by Farber Specialty Vehicles in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, the new Bookmobile features removable bench seating to better facilitate onboard StoryTimes, customized shelving in the form of book carts that can be easily removed and replaced depending upon patron needs at any particular location, and a Wi-Fi router capable of providing community internet access wherever the bookmobile finds itself open for business.
Thanks to Conrad Signs of Geneva, Ohio, the vehicle’s exterior boasts vibrant colors that reflect the community's spirit and invite all to explore its offerings. With the nimble drivability of a standard box truck, the new Bookmobile is designed to easily navigate both urban and rural areas, ensuring access to library resources for everyone.
“The new Bookmobile represents ACDL’s commitment to fostering a love of reading and learning throughout Ashtabula County,” said Library Director, Penny Neubauer. “We are excited to continue this tradition of bringing books and other resources directly to our communities. As much as we loved the old bus, we believe this new vehicle will exceed expectations in enhancing outreach efforts.”
This new Bookmobile will continue the long-established practice of traveling to numerous schools, neighborhoods, and events, offering a curated selection of books, programs, and resources for all ages. Community members are encouraged to visit the new Bookmobile and pick up some library swag as they discover the treasures within. The full Bookmobile schedule can be found to the right.
