Exploring art and music are some of the best ways to promote literacy and brain development in early childhood. Creating art provides children with the opportunity for authentic self-expression—the freedom of choice, thought and feeling. Join us each Tuesday as we learn about different artists and music genres from the 1800’s through the 1980’s. Students will listen to relevant musical pieces and create an art project in the style of the featured artist.

This session will include the discussion of The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. Texas, 1934. Millions are out of work and a drought has broken the Great Plains. Farmers are fighting to keep their land and their livelihoods as the crops are failing, the water is drying up, and dust threatens to bury them all. One of the darkest periods of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl era, has arrived with a vengeance.
At this May meeting, we will distribute book a new book in preparation for the June session.

She also has worked at the Newberry Library in Chicago and the Ashland University Library.

You are invited to join us on the last Monday of each month to workshop your writing with our group. PLEASE NOTE – For May, we will meet on Tuesday the 31st in order to accommodate the Holiday Schedule.
This hybrid group will meet both on Zoom and in person at the library. Pre-registration is necessary to receive the Zoom Details and join the confidential email list. For this first meeting, we will talk about the ground rules of the group. We will also set deadlines for our next meeting and discuss submission guidelines and present tips for presenting friendly yet helpful critiques to the members of the group. Please read over the attached documents, Submission Cover Guide and Writers’ Group Guidelines which will guide our meetings.

Who are we:
We are the Ashtabula County Genealogical Society, Inc., or ACGS for short.
What are our purposes:
The purpose or purposes of the ACGS is to promote and encourage research and to aid and instruct persons in tracing their family history; To publish, if advisable, genealogical materials compiled by the Society members and to copyright this material, if necessary; To collect, preserve, and make available for educational and research purposes family records, scrapbooks, diaries, family Bibles, albums, city directories, newspapers, newspaper clippings, manuscripts, historical books, maps, computers and genealogy CDs, microfilm and microfiche, and such other material used or useful and necessary for genealogical or historical research; To promote and encourage public interest in the preserving of historical records; and To encourage active membership in this Society and in the Ohio Genealogical Society.
Who can become a member of ACGS:
Anyone interested in genealogical research and the preserving of historical records may become a member of ACGS. Patron and benefactor memberships are available.
