The ACDL strives to equip local schools, teachers, parents, and students with the resources they need to succeed.

ACDL supports schools and early education through access to materials, classroom visits, as well as tours of our facilities.

Tours and Field Trips

Please call the library you wish to visit for specifics about your visit.

Ashtabula Library, please contact Youth Services Coordinator Melissa Brodhead at 440.990.2330.

Grade K-2:
Will get a brief tour of the library, a short story read to them, and a presentation on how to use the library and how to treat a book. They can also check out one book each.

Grades 3-5:
Will get a brief tour of the library and a presentation on how to use the library. If time allows, older students may play a special scavenger hunt game or other library activity to reinforce the skills they just learned.

Grades 6-12:
Contact the library for more information.


In a one-hour visit, staff can accommodate groups of up to 30 students.

Please submit a Request for Class to Visit the Library form and a staff member will contact you. We ask that the form be completed no later than two weeks prior to the visit data requested. Please be aware that not all requested visit dates will be available for scheduling.

Classroom Visit

The library has many special programs available to present to your class. A library staff member can visit your classroom to provide an entertaining and informative presentation.

Please submit a Request for Library Staff to Visit Classroom form and a staff member will contact you. We ask that the form be completed no later than two weeks prior to the visit date requested. Not all requested dates will be available, depending on staff schedules and other considerations.

Teacher Collection

A Teacher Collection is a thematic collection of age-appropriate books and materials based upon the subject(s)of your choosing. A Teacher’s Library Card is available to manage these collections, all that is required is a photo ID and verification of current address.

This special library card allows you to borrow materials for one month for classroom use. It also helps library staff to serve you better when compiling Teacher Collections.

Please submit a Teacher Collection Request form and a staff member will contact you.

With a perpetual calendar featuring songs, activities, book suggestions, and videos, Day By Day Ohio offers resources to further develop early literacy skills that help young children prepare for, and to do better in, school. Children enjoy fun, positive learning experiences like Day by Day Ohio that support school success and, ultimately, lifelong learning.

  • Explora – supports both student research and classroom instruction by providing an interface for finding information from EBSCO databases. For students and teachers from primary school, secondary schools, and public libraries.
  • Ohio Department of Education’s Home Schooling page – requirements, frequently asked questions, and links to resources for parents interested in home schooling their children.
  • Ohio School Boards Association – provides information and support for school boards and school board members in public education in Ohio.
  • Resources for Teachers – Career information, continuing education, and useful links for teachers, and lessons and activities for your students, from the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Testing and Education Reference Center (TERC) – All the information and support materials needed to make informed, confident decisions to shape the rest of your life. Prepare for high school entrance and exit exams, search for private schools, prepare for AP tests or practice for the GED®.

Lifelong Learning

  • Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) – basic skills, GED preparation and transition to adult ed/college classes from the Ashtabula County Technical & Career Center (A-Tech.)
  • Coursera – “provides universal access to the world’s best education, partnering with top universities and organizations to offer courses online.”
  • Driving Tests – These OH BMV practice tests are good for the permit test, driver’s license test and the senior citizens’ refresher test. Also includes CDL and motorcycle tests and handbooks.
  • edX – Massive Open Online Courses (free online courses) offered by the top universities and colleges in a wide range of subjects

  • Typing – Learn touch typing free with TypingClub.com. You can sign up to save your progress, or just browse the lessons anonymously.
