Patrons from kids to adults can learn to code

If you’ve ever been interested in learning what coding is about, here’s your chance. The Ashtabula County District Library is now providing access to their Prenda coding club program through our website.

Coding is the computer language used to develop websites, apps, games and computer software. Basically, it’s what tells these tech gadgets do what we want them to do when we press a button. There are different computer languages with coding and Prenda exposes users to some of the most common including; HTML/CSS, Javascript, Python and Blockly. “Prenda allows users from about eight years of age and up to learn how to code, even if they don’t know much about technology, and that’s exciting”, says Penny Neubauer, ACDL director. “This program allows students to learn at their own pace.”

The Ashtabula and Geneva branches of ACDL have been holding coding clubs with students for the past two school years, with great success. The clubs began using Prenda this school year and have found that it allows new club members, as well as veterans, to learn the languages virtually effortlessly.

All you need to get started is a computer and an internet connection! Check out our Database page for access!
