Get creative with words this summer as the Ashtabula County District Library (ACDL) hosts a writing contest to promote summer reading. Patrons are invited to write a short story, poem, play, or chronicle of a person, place or thing.

Entries may be dropped off at the library, mailed to one of our buildings or emailed to us at . The contest runs from July 1, 2020 – July 31, 2020.

Entries should include the name, age/grade, library card number and contact information of the participant. Entries will not be accepted after July 31. A library card is required to participate in the contest and a card can be obtained from the library or at

There are prizes for the winner and runner up in each age category – ranging from giant soccer balls to one dozen Madsen donuts to Kings Island tickets. All prize packages will also include a writing journal and a set of pens.

A panel of librarians, ACDL staff, and Board members will choose their favorites in four categories: Kids-Grades K-2; Kids-Grades 3-5; Teens-Grades 6- 12; and Adults. All entries will be judged blindly – with no identifying information about the participant.
