The Ashtabula County District Library system, including the Ashtabula Public Library, the Geneva Public Library, and the County Bookmobile will be closed to the public beginning Tuesday March 17 at noon. The Library will reopen to patrons as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Ohio Health Department, and Ohio Governor DeWine’s office lift recommendations and restrictions surrounding aggressive social distancing.

“Choosing to close our buildings was a gut-wrenching decision. We know how heavily our patrons rely on our services,” said Library Director, Penny Neubauer. “We hope to find creative ways to continue to serve our communities throughout the duration of this worldwide hardship.”

Updated information will continue to be made available on the Library’s website, www.acdl.info

The Ashtabula County District Library system is closely monitoring information about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The health and safety of our customers and staff is a top priority. Currently our 2 locations are open and operating under normal schedules.

In view of new information coming from Governor DeWine’s office and from the State Library of Ohio, beginning Monday, March 16th, 2020 we will be cancelling all library programming and meeting room usage by community groups. We hope to resume our regular schedule of programs and community meetings on Monday, April 6th, 2020.

We’re working with local health officials and following directions from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). Right now, we are taking additional steps beyond regular practices and cleaning and sanitizing both libraries as much as possible.

Everyone has a role to play in reducing the spread of COVID-19 and staying healthy. Please stay home and do not visit the library if you are exhibiting signs of the flu or if you are not feeling well. We invite you to explore everything we have to offer on our website. You can download eBooks and audiobooks on Overdrive, stream movies and checkout eBooks and audiobooks on Hoopla, and find documentaries and educational programming on Kanopy. If you have questions, please call the library at 440.997.9341. A free library card is available to Ohio residents by simply visiting our website and applying under the “New Card” button. No visit to a physical building is required.

To stay healthy, the CDC and other health agencies recommend:

  1. Washing your hands frequently. Wash your hands for 20 seconds or more with soapy water. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  3. Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  4. Stay home and away from others if you are sick.
  5. Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces frequently.
  6. Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.

We are pleased to announce that the Ashtabula County District Library is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to support the 2020 Census. As a partner, we will be working to make sure our community is accurately represented in the upcoming decennial count.

The census counts everyone in the United States. Census results are the basis for congressional representation and help determine how more than $675 billion in federal funds is distributed each year to support vital programs in states and communities across the country. These funds shape local health care, housing, education, transportation, employment, and public policy. Having an accurate count is critical for Ashtabula County and its funding for the next 10 years.

Your personal information will not be shared with anyone, and non-citizens can fill it out without fear of repercussion.

To find out more about how you can get counted, visit your local library or visit us online at www.acdl.info/2020-census or contact the U.S. Census at www.my2020census.gov or 844-330-2020 (English) or 844-478-2020 (Spanish).
