What is a Cooperating Collection?
Cooperating Collections are free funding information centers in libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit resource centers that provide a core collection of Foundation Center publications and a variety of supplementary materials and services in areas useful to
grantseekers.
About the Foundation Center
The Foundation Center's mission is to support and improve philanthropy by promoting public understanding of the field and helping grantseekers succeed. To achieve its mission, it collects, organizes, and communicates information on U.S. philanthropy; conducts and facilitates research on trends in the field; provides education and training on the grantseeking process; and ensures public access to information and services through its World Wide Web site, print and electronic publications, five library/learning centers, and a national network of Cooperating Collections. Founded in 1956, the Center is the nation's leading authority on philanthropy and is dedicated to serving
grantseekers, grantmakers, researchers, policymakers, the media, and the general public.
Grant-Seeking at the Center Library
The Ashtabula County District Library is a Cooperating Collection of the Foundation
Center. As a member of this nationwide network of libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit agencies, the
Ashtabula County District Library provides visitors with free public access to grantmaker directories, books on fundraising and nonprofit management, and the Foundation Center's
Foundation Directory Online Professional
(FDO). This includes detailed profiles of all active U.S. foundations, as well as an extensive file of recent grants awarded by the nation's top
funders.

What
print and online resources are available?
As a Foundation Center Cooperating Collection, the Ashtabula County District
Library provides a core collection of print and electronic resources, and related reference services, of value to persons seeking scholarships, funding, grants for nonprofits and individuals, and more.

only be available in our Foundation Center Collection.
However, items without an "R" preceding their call number may be borrowed from the library.
Some print-resources may also be available at the Geneva Public Library. |
FOUNDATION DIRECTORY ONLINE
is the Foundation Center’s online database for nonprofits. It contains four files:

Search Grantmakers
- Search Companies
- Search Grants
- Search 990s.
The grantmakers file can be searched by field of interest, geographic focus, types of support and many other categories. The grants file can be searched by subject,
recipient type, year authorized, types of support and more.

Anyone is free to use the materials during our regular business hours at no charge.

Can I check out materials?
Selected titles are available for check out if the library owns additional
copies. You can make photocopies of the non-lending materials for 20˘ a page.

Our Reference Librarians can give a brief introduction to the online databases.
The Foundation Center offers free webinars to grant-seekers and members of
nonprofit organizations. For example, their Grantseeking
Basics webinar for representatives of nonprofit organizations will provide
an overview of the funding research process. It is also available in Spanish.

A blog from the Foundation Center's Cleveland office that spotlights grantmakers,
their grants, and the work of the Foundation Center and other nonprofit
organizations in Northeast Ohio and beyond.
Chronicle of Philanthropy
Recent issues of the Chronicle of Philanthropy, a leading journal in the field, include news, recent grants and job listings. An excellent selection of links includes fundraising and nonprofit organization management, private and government grantmakers, fundraising on the internet, legal issues and other topics. A listing of conferences, workshops and seminars is also posted.
Foundation News and Commentary
This bimonthly periodical was produced by the Council on Foundations as a compliment to the publication Foundation Directory from 1960 through 2006. The Grants Collection has back issues of this periodical from 1996 through its last issue in October 2006.
Grassroots Fundraising Journal
Find out what other local level organizations are doing to raise money and manage their
nonprofits at the same time by reading Grassroots. The online version only permits viewers to read the feature
article, but visitors may sign up for the e-newsletter. To read the complete periodical see the Periodicals Department at

Nonprofit Times
The internet version of a very informative monthly newspaper for nonprofits with articles on trends and developments in the field. A free subscription to the Nonprofit Times is available for full time U.S. nonprofit executives.
Responsive Philanthropy
The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) provides news on the nonprofit sector and information on
philanthropic accountability. Those interested can join the email list to receive notice of news in the field. NCRP also publishes a quarterly newsletter available in the Periodicals Department.

The Nonprofit Quarterly
The Nonprofit Quarterly publishes themed magazines that address information on managing a nonprofit. Sign up for the monthly E-Newsletter to receive updates on hot topics and new happenings in the nonprofit world. Select articles from this quarterly magazine are available online. Print copies can be found in the Periodicals Department.
Board Cafe: The Newsletter Exclusively for Members of Nonprofit Boards of Directors
"Short enough to read over a chai latte, the Board Café offers a menu of ideas, opinion, news, and resources to help board members give and get the most out of board service." - Intro. Actually, it's a free electronic newsletter that will be of interest to nonprofit board
members. Many of the links are worth checking into.
On Philanthropy
On Philanthropy, a nonprofit internet resource center, encompasses five different newsletters you can
subscribe to.
Philanthropy News Network
With a long history of gathering news and current events about philanthropy, the Philanthropy News Network (PNN) covers developments from across the nation to help nonprofits stay informed.
PND Philanthropy News Digest
This site mounted by the Foundation Center features current news on foundations and philanthropy from a number of the important periodicals in the field.
